The A and B tests coverexactly the same material, but the questions have beenchanged and reorganized to allow easy and effectiveadministration of the tests in the classroom – it becomesalmost impossible for students to copy answers. If copyingisn’t a problem with your class, you can just use the A tests.Listening testsAll the Listening tests re-use listenings from the Student’sBook. Some students may remember the contexts of thelistenings, but they are very unlikely to remember thedetail, and the listening exercises are all KET-type taskswhich are different from the tasks that students havealready done. The Listening numbers1.9are indicated in the Answer key.Answer keyThe Answer key for the tests starts on page 65.2New English File Intermediate photocopiable Oxford University Press 2006

Animportant influence on my personality was mygrandmother, Hannah. She was born in 1930 into apoor family with seven children – they had to take verygood care of each other in order to survive. Growingup in such difficult conditions had a positive effect onher, teaching her to share everything, be honest, helpful, hard-working, and affectionate. Mygrandmother taught me all these things, making merealize that family is more important than materialpossessions.A TrueThe people around you have the greatest influence onyour life – they affect the way you behave and think. Assoon as Rob and I met, we connected. When Rob wasyoung, his father died in a motorcycle accident. Beingbrought up as an only child by a single parent made himindependent and ambitious. He left home at 16, andsince then has lived in different places and had variousjobs. He’s taught me that it’s important to find time forfriends and family and to do what makes you happy. Healways has fun, trying new things, keeping his mind andbody healthy, and he still works hard to achieve hisgoals. I greatly admire Rob and I hope that one day Ican look at life in the way that he does.Jed MitchellI spent many hours as a child listening to my uncleWilson’s stories. He was the youngest of 11 childrenwhose family lived in a fishing town in Scotland. Lifewas hard and with so many mouths to feed, thechildren began working from an early age. At just 14,my uncle began his first job as a fisherman. That wasthe beginning of his adventures – he travelled andworked in Alaska, South-East Asia, India, and Africa. Heeducated himself, learnt to be a chef, an engineer, afarmer, and photographer. Uncle Wilson taught me thatlife is special and that you should take everyopportunity that you can to fill it with adventure.10B False A True B False C Doesn’t say C Doesn’t say 3 Maria’s grandmother is still alive.4 Growing up in a big family made Maria’s grandmotherless selfish.A True B False5 Katie met Rob at work.A True B False C Doesn’t say C Doesn’t say 6 Katie knew she and Rob would be good friends becausethey immediately got on well.A TrueKatie Dupont B False C Doesn’t say7 Katie thinks Rob lives his life in a positive way.A True B False C Doesn’t say8 Jed’s uncle’s first job was as a chef.A True B False C Doesn’t say 9 Jed thinks people shouldn’t waste any chances in life.A True B False C Doesn’t say10 Jed would like to travel like his uncle did.A True B False C Doesn’t sayReading total 10WR ITI N GImagine you’re going to study at a language school inthe UK for three weeks.
